Agata Gerchen’s exhibition will present the installation “After Playing” (2021), as well as the corresponding series of drawing linocuts “Motherhood.”
In her work to date, the artist has consistently focused on the work that fills our everyday life and the object that is inseparable from it. Often it is a trivial thing that we treat indifferently, uncharged with an emotional charge.
Analyzing trivial and everyday objects has become the unifying point of my entire artistic output to date. The graphics are a pretext for conducting an analysis of everyday life, which by its routine seems to be disregarded. My inspiration came from ordinary activities and everyday things. They are the basis of everyday life which is also the basis of our existence.
Agata Gertchen – born 1985 in Rawicz, Poland. In 2010 she graduated from the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw at the Faculty of Graphic Arts. Since 2010, she has been teaching art printmaking in the Intaglio Studio together with Prof. Przemyslaw Tyszkiewicz, and is currently employed as an assistant professor at her alma mater. She interrupted her career after the birth of her first son. She has now returned from her second maternity leave, to which she has dedicated her latest set of works. She is most comfortable creating in linocut, mezzotint and drawing techniques. Her graphic and drawing works have received more than twenty awards and prizes.
