We invite you to a truly unique concert at our gallery by the Ukrainian musician, lirnyk, and master instrument maker — Gordiy Starukh.
Gordiy Starukh is a lirnyk, master, and music producer from Lviv, Ukraine. In his work, he combines traditional Ukrainian songs and melodies with elements of electronic music, adapting them to modern times and popularizing them worldwide. The core of his music is the handcrafted hurdy-gurdy — an ancient musical instrument that holds a special place in Ukrainian culture.
Artistry and Achievements:
He began his solo career in 2017 and has released four albums:
• Brama (2022)
• Talan (2023)
• Vytynanka (in collaboration with KOZAK SIROMAHA, 2024)
• Svitlo (2024).
Gordiy has released over ten music videos and participated in the Ukrainian edition of The Voice.
A multi-instrumentalist, he performs as a “one-man band,” simultaneously playing the hurdy-gurdy, percussion instruments, synthesizers, and singing.
Education:
2003–2009 — Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Arts named after Ivan Trush.
Professional Activity:
Since 2009, he has been a master craftsman improving the traditional Ukrainian hurdy-gurdy. His instruments are highly valued in professional circles and are used by musicians worldwide. Over the past 15 years, he has crafted more than 200 hurdy-gurdies.
In 2006–2008, he founded the band Ludzie Dobre, combining Ukrainian folk songs with various musical styles.
2008–2017 — founder and member of the folk-rock band Joryj Kłoc, which popularized Ukrainian folk songs in a modern sound. In the band, he worked as a vocalist, guitarist, composer, music producer, and designer. Together, they released three albums (Joryj Kłoc — 2014, Korba — 2015, Koza — 2016) and six music videos.
Solo Career (since 2017):
He continues working with Ukrainian folk songs and melodies, blending them with electronic music. His main concept is: “forgotten songs must live in the present.”
Collaborations:
He collaborates with Ukrainian and international artists, including Onuka, MIKROMUSIC, Jerry Heil, Serhiy Zhadan, DOROFEEVA, KOZAK SIROMAHA, Zlata Ognevich, Morphom, Illya LETAY, and others.
Personal Life:
Gordiy is the father of three children. His wife, Daria Aloshkina, is a renowned artist reviving the art of paper-cutting (vytinanka).
Since 2022, he has been running a blog about Ukrainian culture.
