Exhibition of Contemporary Icons

This is the second exhibition under this title organized by our gallery in Trójmiasto—the first took place in December 2021 and attracted great interest not only among lovers of sacred art but also among enthusiasts of high-level contemporary art.
The current exhibition presents contemporary icons created during annual icon-painting workshops over the past 18 years.
These workshops were initiated in the Lemko village of Nowica by the Association of Friends of Nowica, in collaboration with the Department of Sacred Art at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. The results of these gatherings have been showcased in over 100 exhibitions in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.
The exhibited icons feature diverse representations, themes, and biblical narratives, as well as reflections on Church life. The works differ in style and artistic technique, illustrating the evolution of contemporary sacred art and demonstrating how the language of the “new” icon takes form.
The exhibition is part of our long-standing collaboration with the ICONART Lviv Gallery and the Association of Friends of Nowica.
The authors of the presented works include not only master iconographers. The organizers of the workshops have also invited renowned artists from various artistic movements and techniques, making the exhibition a unique exploration of the contemporary icon and its place in today’s art world.
