Collage Workshop

Join us for a collage workshop for young people and creative adults led by visual artist **Hanna Shumska**.
During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with collage techniques and express their own short stories through visual art. Together we will explore how archives, newspapers, magazines, photographs, and printed materials can become sources of inspiration for creating original visual narratives.
Participants will also learn the fundamentals of image and text composition, colour combinations, and working with a variety of textures and structures. Each participant will create an individual collage artwork to take home. The workshop is open to both young people and adults.
About the instructor
**Hanna Shumska** (born in 1993) is a visual artist and researcher. She works across multimedia, installation, collage, painting, and drawing. Her artistic practice employs contemporary methods and strategies to deconstruct stereotypes and myths from a female perspective. She primarily explores questions of identity and personal experience in relation to historical events, migration processes, and socio-political issues.
She completed the Doctoral School at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2024 and received her Doctor of Arts degree in 2025. She is a graduate of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznań, the Lviv National Academy of Arts, and the Taras Shevchenko State Art High School in Kyiv. She currently works as an assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk.
She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the **Young Creators of Culture Award of the City of Gdańsk (2025)**, an equal award at the **14th Geppert Competition (2023)**, the **Grand Prix in the Artistic Category of the 40th Maria Dokowicz Competition (2022)**, an award at the **45th Bielska Jesień Painting Biennale (2021)**, and the **Mayor of Gdańsk Award** in the Academy of Fine Arts Best Diploma Competition (2020).
She was a recipient of the **Ewa Kuryluk Scholarship (2022–2024)** and the **Gaude Polonia Scholarship Programme** of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2021). She has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, artistic residencies, academic conferences, and interdisciplinary art projects. Her works are included in the collections of **Krupa Gallery**, **Archiwum Idei** in Poznań, the **Korsak Museum** in Ukraine, as well as private collections in Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, and the United States.
