The exhibition “Coexistence” by Serhiy Savchenko is an artistic journey into the world of adaptation and coexistence, revealing deep philosophical ideas about being. This exhibition showcases the artist’s latest paintings created over the last two years, reflecting the complex emotions and experiences related to the processes of interaction between humans and nature.

Savchenko invites viewers to reflect on how we adapt to changes in life, and how this coexistence can be both desired and forced. Through expressive painting, the artist conveys the invisible threads connecting us to the surrounding world, emphasising the importance of harmony in relationships and the inner world of every individual.

Today, in the context of war in Ukraine, many Ukrainians face the forced necessity of adaptation. This has become particularly relevant as people are compelled to quickly reshape their lives, find new ways to survive, and preserve their identity. This process of adaptation in wartime symbolizes not only physical self-preservation but also spiritual resilience.

Savchenko, as an artist who has experienced these changes, reflects these complex emotions in his works — from the pain of loss to the hope of restoration. His painting becomes a language through which the experiences of millions seeking their place in a new reality are transmitted.
Location:
The exhibition will take place at Gallery 68, one of the oldest and most experienced galleries in the royal district of Copenhagen. This gallery has long been a home for Savchenko’s creativity, and the artist’s return after a 12-year hiatus gives this event special significance.
Key Elements of the Exhibition:
Expressive Canvases: Savchenko’s new works impress with their emotional depth and artistic mastery, reflecting the complexity of human relationships and the processes of adaptation.
Philosophical Context: The exhibition prompts reflections on what it means to “coexist” in the modern world, exploring themes of cooperation, emotional support, and shared existence.
“Coexistence” is not just an exhibition of paintings but a call to understand and accept how we all together create this reality, learning to adapt and coexist in various circumstances. We invite you to visit this incredible event and immerse yourself in the world of Serhiy Savchenko’s art.

My collaboration with Gallery-68 began over 25 years ago when we communicated through fax machines. The gallery was run by the couple Birthe Christensen and Kjeld Morgensen. They were both always reliable, honest, and open in their collaboration—true enthusiasts and democrats in art. Despite the somewhat closed nature of the Danish art community, they confidently showcased works by artists from so-called “third countries.” Over the years of our cooperation, we opened exhibitions together, communicated, shared our lives, celebrated successes, and worked together to achieve them. Many good and unforgettable things happened. My children considered Kjeld and Birthe their Danish grandparents.
At the beginning of this year, Kjeld passed away. Always a great, friendly, and strong Viking, a wonderful friend and admirer of beauty, he departed to worlds where there is no longer a need to worry about the burdens of physical matter. Birthe was left alone.
A few months after Kjeld’s passing, Birthe suggested organizing an exhibition.
We prepared everything as it should be, selecting the newest works and combining them with pieces from previous years that were in the gallery’s collection. The exhibition also features sculptures by various authentic African artists, which the gallery has exhibited over the years. We decided to keep them in the hall as an integral part of the idea of our coexistence in this ever-changing world.
Special thanks to Olesya Poluyko and her partner Esben for their sincere help in preparing and organizing the exhibition.
The exhibition will run until December 11th. I invite everyone who has the opportunity to visit it. Gallery 68 is a truly analog gallery with no website, Instagram, or Facebook, so the only sure way to visit is in person.
